One of the great things about living in Southern Pines is that on the first Friday in the months of May through October, there’s a community event called, you guessed it ….. “First Friday”. If you live downtown, you can walk! If you live in one of the other neighborhoods in and around Pinehurst and Southern Pines, its just a short drive from your home.
With bands, music, food and other entertainment, it’s a chance to gather in wonderful downtown Southern Pines with family, friends and neighbors, to take a break and enjoy the town and everything that makes it such a great place to live. You’ll probably even meet someone new.
The event is a reminder for all of us to support the restaurateurs and merchants, without whom Southern Pines could be as lonely as so many small towns have become. Children love First Fridays, and we can all hearken back to “the good ole days” when we knew all of our neighbors and spent more time on the simpler things in life.
When the festivities are over, stick around and enjoy one the great downtown restaurants. There are 18 of them in all within 2 blocks of the town center.
